John Bertrand

Travels from: Victoria, Australia

Fee Range: $10,000-$15,000

John Bertrand AM mastered the principles of leadership as a result of a long international apprenticeship. This journey took him through three America's Cup Challenges - 1970, 1974 and 1980 - and three Olympic Games teams before he had assembled enough leadership, knowledge and skill as skipper of Australia II, to finally succeed in winning the 1983 America's Cup.
That final assault on the "Everest of Sport" in September 1983 is now part of Australia's sporting culture. During the bicentennial year of 1988, Australia's Sporting Hall of Fame voted the Australia II victory as the greatest team performance in 200 years of Australian sport.

John Bertrand, born in Melbourne, graduated with an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University and a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He was the Executive Chairman and Skipper of the One Australia America's Cup Challenge 1995 Pty Ltd. This 40 million dollar challenge was considered the most advanced by all other foreign challengers and American defenders, due mainly to the early and highly successful partnership agreements with major sponsors. The re-emergence of Bertrand versus Connor in the America's Cup showdown in May 1995 set the stage for the greatest America's Cup competition this century.

His bookBorn To Win, published in 1985, was the largest selling autobiography in Australian publishing history and is now published in four foreign languages.

John's presentations on leadership have been acclaimed around Australia and Internationally.
