Kevin Ervin Kelley, AIA, is a founding partner and principal of Shook Kelley, a Perception Design firm that specializes in "situation creation" for retail/consumer-based companies. With two offices and a staff of 50, Shook Kelley's core disciplines include architecture, interiors, graphic design, branding, product design, advertising, merchandising and public relations. Mr. Kelley serves as principal-in-charge of brand strategy and conceptual design for retail, restaurant, grocery store, consumer packaged goods and leisure destination clients.
Since forming Shook Kelley with Charles Terry Shook in 1992, Mr. Kelley and his firm have been nationally recognized for their innovative approach to design.
Mr. Kelley served as Professor in the College of Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he received a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1987. For 10 years, Mr. Kelley also taught professional courses on branding and marketing at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. As a frequent guest lecturer at seminars across the country, Mr. Kelley's recent speaking engagements include the Executive Education Seminar at Harvard University, 2007 and 2006 Harley-Davidson Dealer Operations Training Seminars, 2007 Kraft Foods Strategic Growth Conference, 2007 Cadbury Adams Americas Confectionary Strategic Road Map Meeting, 2006 Pacific Coast Builder's Conference, 2005 TREX (Total Retail Experience) Conference, 2005 In-Store Marketing Summit, 2004 FMI (Food Marketing Institute) Chicago and San Francisco Conferences, 2004 Hospitality Design Conference, 2004 National Restaurant Association and he participated in a live web-cast for Ernst & Young's "Winning Strategies for Fast-Paced Ventures" series titled "How to Dominate Your Market." Mr. Kelley is the immediate past president of the South End Development Corp., which has transformed a once-blighted industrial district of Charlotte into a thriving community. He has been featured in The Charlotte Business Journal's "Forty Under Forty" and "People to Watch as well as in Hospitality Design as one of America's Top 8 Young Restaurant Designers 2001." Mr. Kelley is an accredited member of the American Institute of Architects, a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Downtown Association.
