Pat Farmer is Australia's leading ultra-marathon runner having competed in and completed the TRANSAMERICA FOOTRACE twice. The race is regarded as the toughest foot-race on earth.

In his first effort, Pat came an amazing second place to American Raymond Bell without the assistance of a support vehicle or crew.

In his most recent attempt, Pat sustained a stress fracture to his leg in the second week of the race in the steep climb up the Rocky Mountains. Despite advice to rest the injury (which would have resulted in instant disqualification), Pat continued and completed the 64 day race. Of the original 14 runners who started the race in Huntingdon Beach California, only 10 finished in Central Park New York. Pat Farmer accomplished a remarkable fourth place.

When asked why he wanted to run the 4,719-km race from the West to East Coast of America, Farmer replied "I want the world to know that there is no task beyond the will of an Australian. I want to be the best ultra-marathon runner in the world."

Pat Farmer has an impressive ultra-marathon record. Farmer was the youngest man in the world ever to run 1,000 kms and the youngest man ever to finish the Sydney to Melbourne ultra-marathon.

Pat also broke the long-standing Simpson Desert record!

Farmer's running career is full of firsts. Farmer was the first man to run from the northern most point of Australia, Cockle Creek, Tasmania. He ran 5 969.2 km in 110 days to raise funds and awareness for diabetes research.

Farmer has devoted much time and energy to running for charities. He ran more than 2,500 kms around New South Wales and raised over $120,000 for the Rotary Wing of the Children's Hospital at Westmead. He ran an average of 60 kms per day for 42 consecutive days.

Pat completed a round Australia run, to commemorate the Centenary of Federation. He covered 14,986km in 191 days.
