Having grown up watching Wheel of Fortune, Sophie never thought she would one day spin the letters on the show. Wheel of Fortune was a three year chapter in Sophie's short, albeit busy media career, which has taken her from a university lecture hall, to full-time modelling, to a newsroom researcher, and finally, appearing on prime-time television on one of Australia's most successful lifestyle programmes, The Great Outdoors.
To look at Sophie Falkiner, you'd say Sophie Falkner had won the jackpot: blue eyes, blonde hair and a perfect size eight figure. But looks can be deceiving - as a teenager, Sophie battled scoliosis.
Sophie was in Year 8 when she was diagnosed the debilitating condition. At 14, she had to wear a back brace for two years, but her condition didn't improve and she had surgery at 21. 'They sawed out a rib, took out my lung, put some nuts and bolts in my spine and popped my lung back in,' she recalls. 'I was minus a rib for a while but it grew back eventually!'
Sport was out, trips to the beach were embarrassing and group dates would sometimes involve a quick wardrobe change. As well as fixing her back, the surgery had another positive effect on Sophie's life. 'I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life at 21,' she says. 'But sitting on my backside in hospital, I realised I wanted to go back to uni. It was a wake-up call that life is precious.'
Sophie?s natural good looks and healthy lifestyle came to the attention of big brands such as Neutrogena, Berlei and AMP Capital Shopping centers and more recently, active wear brand Running Bare. Sophie?s down to earth attitude and professionalism has seen every one of her contracts extended.
Whilst having two beautiful children Sophie worked for Foxtel for 5 years and still does special projects for them to this day. She hosted Intimate Portraits on the Bio channel, Celebrity Poker (filmed at Crown Casino with over 30 Australian celebrities), two seasons of Confidential entertainment show on Fox 8, TV specials such as Michael Buble?s Canada, The Astra?s, and interview specials with the likes of Joan Rivers, Kelly Rowland and two highly rated Michael Jackson interviews, thus broadening her skill set.
Sophie also dabbled in radio hosting a show with Katrina Warren called ?She Said? on Radio 2, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and would like to do more of. Recently, Sophie has become a regular on Sunrise and is now a "Kochies Angel? commenting on news and current affairs.
Over the years Sophie has worked with many charities such as The Leukemia Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation, whilst also being an ambassador for Red Nose day and Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Sophie also never misses the Mothers Day Classic running 8 km every year to support breast cancer.
Sophie has a broad skill set, being accomplished in different arena?s from entertainment news and interviewing to hosting shows and her greatest passion lifestyle. Sophie enjoys, family, cooking , travel, health and fitness, fashion and renovating.
Sophie is aspirational to Mum?s being able to juggle family, friends, career and exercise whilst maintaining a happy and positive outlook.
