George Negus has written, directed and presented Australian commercial and public television current affairs since 1975 --  with a special passion for international affairs and Australia's place in the world.

He worked independently via Negus Media International for more than 20 years as well as roles as presenter/interviewer & reporter for ABCs Foreign Correspondent, Australia Talks and George Negus Tonight and Channel Nine's 60 Minutes and Today Show;  Channel Seven's coverage of both Gulf Wars; SBS TV's flagship international affairs program Dateline, TEN Network's news analysis program at 6/630pm. He continues as occasional international/national news affairs commentator on The Project, now a dynamic prime time hour on TEN.

Books include the most recent bestsellers The World From Italy and The World from Islam and The World From DownUnder produced with Negus Media and publisher Harper Collins.

 

 

Over many years of journalism and public life George has become one of Australia's best known faces and witty, well informed provocateur.

After 40 years globe-trotting for television programs like Nine's 60 Minutes, the ABCForeign Correspondent and now, SBS TV's Dateline, George Negus is regarded as Australia's iconic international journalist

But it all began in his home State of Queensland where as a schoolboy, George played inter-State cricket and was junior soccer ball-juggling champion. After teachers college and studying Arts at the University of Queensland, George taught high school Maths and English in Brisbane schools and in the UK.

Armed with a Diploma in Journalism, his media career commenced at 28 with The Australian newspaper, moving to its Canberra bureau, later, the Australian Financial Review and onto television current affairs, via the ABC's 'This Day Tonight' and a decade with Channel Nine's historically successful 'Sixty Minutes.'

He has interviewed a myriad of national and international figures, most recently billionaire political activist George Soros on 'cowboy capitalism',  James Wolfensen on the role of the World Bank, Richard Branson on politics and philanthropy and Al Gore on climate change. His recent overseas assignments have included Pakistan to interview Imran Khan, Canada to discuss Iraq and Iran with General Wesley Clark, the Arctic Circle to discover how far the tentacles of the US sub-prime loan crisis has spread and the Middle East to interview Israeli President, Shimon Peres.

George's independent projects have included over 150,000 best-selling book sales of The World from Italy, The World from Islam and Trev the Truck (for toddlers) .  Across the Red Unknown across Russia and Kids First with the late Sir Peter Ustinov produced both films and books for the international market.

George's favourite sideline is facilitating conferences for some of Australia's major government and private institutions. His speeches address the challenge of our rapidly and monumentally changing world, providing personal insight, historical perspective and political edge for business, educators and governments grappling with the dilemmas of contemporary society - the world that has become George Negus's oyster!
