Arthur Yeung is currently Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan Business School and Philips Chair Professor of HRM at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). In addition, he is also President of Aspire Academy - an executive development institute that devotes to organizational and leadership development in Greater China region. Before his recent return to academia, Dr. Yeung was CHO (Chief HR Officer) and Corporate VP of Acer Group, one of the top 10 PC companies worldwide. Reporting directly to the Chairman & CEO of Acer Group, he worked closely with the top management team to radically transform Acer to meet the challenges and opportunities of new business realities. As one of the 5-member Transition Management Team, he actively contributed to the launch of several major change initiatives in the last 2 years, including downsizing, spinning of the manufacturing arm into a separate public listed company, merging and integration of five companies into New Acer, and transformation of New Acer into a performance-driven, customer-centric company.
Dr. Yeung was also the founding Executive Director of three executive learning consortia in U.S., Asia-Pacific, and Taiwan: California Strategic Human Resource Partnership, Asia-Pacific Human Resource Partnership, and Asian Strategic HR Partnership. In his capacity as the executive directors of these Partnerships, he worked closely with senior HR executives to identify and research a wide range of strategic HR issues both in the United States and Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Yeung research interests focus on building organizational capability for strategic implementation, leading and facilitating organizational transformation, and strategic human resource management. He had received research awards from two leading human resource associations in the United States: Yoder-Heneman Personnel Research Award presented by the Society of Human Resource Management (1989) and Best Research Paper of the Year by the Human Resource Planning Society (1995). In 2002, he also received the Gold Book Award jointly presented by Ministry of Economic Affairs and Chinese Management Association in Taiwan. Dr. Yeung also serves as an associate editor of Human Resource Management Journal and member of Editorial Advisory Board of Harvard Business Review (China).
In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Yeung has also been involved in training and consulting projects for numerous major corporations in Asia and North America, including 7-11, ABB, Acer Group, AlliedSignal, Applied Materials, BenQ Group, Boeing, Carrier, China Mobile, China Steel, Ford Motors, Hewlett-Packard, ICI, ING Antai, Inventec Group, Philips, Primax Electronics, Rockwell Automation, Sun Microsystems, Taishin Financial Holdings, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, and United Microelectronic Group. He also serves as a board member at Kingdee International Software Group.
Due to his contribution in executive education, Dr. Yeung was recognized in 1999 by "Business Horizon" magazine in the U.S. as one of the next-generation "Executive Development Guru." In 2002, Dr. Yeung was elected as "HR Executive of the Year" by SmartFortune Magazine in China in recognition of his influential contribution in strategic human resource management in Greater China region. He also serves as a Regional Judge for selecting "Best Employers in Asia" sponsored by Hewitt, Asian Wall Street Journal, and Far Eastern Economic Review.
