Dan Cass is a sought-after speaker who helps audiences understand how sustainability, technology and energy are reshaping markets, investment and everyday life. He has spoken to audiences ranging from Commonwealth Bank business clients and the Clean Energy Council Annual Conference to the Regional Australia Institute Annual Conference, the Swinburne University Chancellor's Oration, Rotary Regional Conferences and community forums across Australia.
Dan’s big story for Australia is we do not need to wait or wish for a silver bullet on climate. We already have the silver buckshot: more than 4.5 million solar-powered households, joined by growing numbers of home batteries and electric vehicles. He says this consumer groundswell "electrifies sustainability", because it saves ordinary people money, building an appetite for more green change. During an international energy crisis, this electric buckshot also means more energy independence for the nation and insulation from price shocks.
Dan is an acknowledged expert on the clean energy transition with the track record to make his ‘electrifying sustainability’ message credible. Until 2025 Dan was CEO of Rewiring Australia, which he co-founded with Dr Saul Griffith.
Dan is as comfortable addressing an EV expo as a room of institutional investors, briefing the federal Treasurer or talking to a hall of people from rural and regional Australia. He's shown he can tailor the sustainability story for Sky News or a Senate Inquiry, a Rotary Club in Townsville or an academic conference in Melbourne, climate experts in London or businesses at a banking conference in Queensland. He's published dozens of policy reports and built a reputation for finding the plain words and light touch of humour that get a complex argument across, whoever's in the room. That range shows in the company he's kept: advising institutional investors at the Clean Energy Investor Group, climate diplomacy with the progressive Presidents of the Maldives and Kiribati, a national speaking tour of a former Republican Congressman, and a track record winning big environmental stories in outlets as different as the ABC and News Corp for Greenpeace. And he's just as at home building culture as building coalitions — co-founding Greenups, Australia's longest-running sustainability networking night, and the Deborah Cass Prize, which has helped six migrant writers publish nine books.
He started young, as the youngest curator ever appointed at Melbourne's Scienceworks museum. He has spent every year since finding new ways to make big ideas land with a room full of people.
