John Maher

Victoria, Australia

John was the manager in Bendigo of a large Life Insurance company when he was involved in a horrific car crash. In that crash he received life threatening injuries, and from those injuries, he was classed as unemployable at age 42.
Thankfully John had Income Protection, and this became his and his family’s financial saviour for the next 16 years. But John and his family’s lives were changed forever and with the help of doctors and his family, John worked hard at recovering his mental and physical self.

Just when you think you’ve heard it all, a greater tragedy was to come when Carmen (18), the youngest of John and Ange’s four daughters was killed in a car crash. John is now one of Australia’s foremost road safety campaigners.

John is passionate about the role that ‘risk’, and in particular, the role that Income Protection should play in a client’s portfolio. From his personal experience he believes that Income Protection is the most important ‘risk’ protection for every family and business.

John’s presentation is confronting and personal, it’s thought provoking and factual….it will make advisers and clients alike understand the need to secure the one thing that makes their financial life tick, their income!”

  • In 2013, 2014 and 2015, John was nominated for the National Australia Day Council ‘Australian of the Year Award’.
