Specialty Areas

Performance psychologist to professional athletes, performing artists, and successful CEOs, Sean Richardson brings an Olympic level of commitment to excellence in his work with clients. Whilst high performance is the goal, Sean is also aware that many people get stopped by personal 'stuff' and by what goes on inside their heads - personal barriers often get in the way of even the most ambitious goals and determined efforts. Thus, Sean brings a total commitment to mental and emotional balance to his practice. He works tirelessly, coaching his clients to develop mindsets and behaviours that not only get them success, but also give them tools to be powerful in the face of most challenges that life throws at them.

Sean comes from a background of elite sport, having competed at national and international levels. Combining 30 years as an athlete in competitive sports with a PhD, MA & BA in psychology, ongoing research & professional development in brain and behaviour functionality, and 9 years in practice, Sean has found that the principles of mental discipline required for performance at the highest levels in sport apply effectively to performance in business, music, dance and personal achievement.

Sean's current sport & arts clients include the St Kilda Football Club, The Australian Ballet Company, and the Victorian Institute of Sport. Clients in the corporate sector have included ANZ, National Foods, TAB Corp, and NAB. Sean has been a lecturer at Victoria University in Research and Statistics, and at Deakin University in Sport Psychology. He has also been a guest lecturer for the Monash Music Department. Sean is currently working with pop dance band, Momenta, doing performance psychology work to coach them to international success. Sean's private clients include corporate executives, sales staff, business coaches, opera singers, golfers, dancers, football players, triathletes, and the general public.

Sean has discovered extraordinary fulfilment in his unique practice, working across the spectrum from clinical counselling, where support and emotional balance are the first priority, to high performance coaching & mentoring, where challenge and accountability take the spotlight. Sean?s practice is a bit like Freud meets Michael Jordan at meditation/basketball boot camp - Vitamin B for the mind, body and spirit!

Testimonials

Sean was a breath of fresh air as a motivational speaker at our annual conference. Having attended quite a few conferences over my career, I found Sean refreshing, direct and humble at the same time. Sean has even taken the time to answer questions that I had, which I felt that I could not bring up in such a short time allocation at the conference. Sean is a professional in how he approaches his work, but also a confidante that you can entirely trust in. Sean has been a great value add to our national conference this year, and I would recommend him for any company who seeks a different but stylistic approach to motivating team members.
