Jemima's journey began in Little Athletics, where she discovered her talent for race walking. By 16, she represented Australia in the junior event at the World Race Walking Cup. At just 20, she made her senior debut at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, winning gold in the 20km walk—a moment she cherishes as her most memorable achievement.

Montag's impressive career includes a series of groundbreaking performances. In 2020, she secured her spot on the Tokyo Olympic team, where she finished an outstanding sixth—Australia’s second-best Olympic result in race walking history. She followed this with a record-breaking performance in 2022, setting a new Australian record in the 20km walk and defending her Commonwealth Games title.

In 2023, Jemima made history by winning silver at the World Championships in Budapest, setting a new Australian record in the 20km walk. She continued her record-breaking streak in 2024, lowering the national record yet again.
